Colorimetric measuring procedure to determine splitting of enzymes by water-soluble substrates containing ester bonds, comprises enzymatic reduction of the concentration of the substrate by a triphenyl dye, then comparing the absorption spectrum of the reduced substrate with a solution of the triphenyl dye using the same reaction conditions with the bonds resulting from detatchment of carbonic acid from the substrate.
