Conversion of halogenated copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) crude pigments containing 4 - 50.3 wt.% chlorine to a more suitable pigment is achieved by heating with a liquid acidic aromatic organic medium in the presence of a CuPc derivative and, optionally, water.
