To measure gas mixtures, the mixture is oscillated and the frequency is measured, using sounds from musical instruments, to monitor their effects on the gas mixture. Oscillations and/or noise are applied to the unknown gas mixture, and the expansion of the oscillations and/or noise levels gives information on the gas composition, and a frequency change gives information on the gas speed and flow. The gas flow is passed through a flute or pipe musical instrument by one or more pumps, or the sound can be from a string musical instrument, a mechanical or an electromagnetic system, or by resonance. Acoustic or mechanical oscillations are generated, and the sound frequency of the oscillations or acoustic energy is converted into electrical signals for evaluation. The measurement zone is adjusted by setting the sound level. A number of sound systems can be used, for the successive shifts in sound levels to be taken for evaluation from sounds in different media. The sound levels can be in the ultrasonic and low sound ranges. The gas mixture can be assessed in a chamber with a wall structure to dampen or reflect noise phenomena selectively through magnetic bodies. A mechanical and/or acoustic division is between the pump(s) and the measurement chamber.
