Lime is added to waste incineration slag for shortening its storage time and/or improving its volume stability by additional and/or accelerated calcite formation. Shortening the storage time and/or improving the volume stability of waste incineration slags comprises adding milk of lime before or during the slag storage and setting in the atmosphere to provide additional and/or accelerated calcite formation.
