The device comprises two elements (1,2), whose relative movement caused by movement of the thorax, which in turn is caused by breathing, is detected. An elastic return element (3) moves the two elements back to the start position. If the elements remain too long in the start position, then a clock (4) or counter is triggered that without reset by breathing starting triggers an alarm.
