The tire heating press has columns (10) fixed to upper platen (3) with their lower ends sliding through a lower platen (2). Locking members (18) for each column engage with holding points (13,14), axially spaced along the sliding column ends, and absorb axial forces in the columns. An annular cylinder (19) around each column exerts a force onto the locking members so that the tool halves (5,8) are closed with the necessary clamping pressure. Preferred Features: The holding points (13,14) are circumferential grooves (15) with upper and lower annular surfaces (16,17) for axial load transfer. Locking members (18) comprise two or more parts which move radially relative to the column axis and have internal grooves corresponding with the holding points on the columns. The locking members (18) move in a straight line radially on the column axis. The locking point (13) at the free column end has a circumferential flange (25) whose diameter is larger than that of the column.
