Two or more flat thin-walled workpieces (11, 12) are faastened together with the aid of a tool (7) of circular ccross-section of dia. (d) and with a pointed tip (10). A hole of dia. (D) which is larger than the tool dia. (d) is made in one of the workpieces. The second workpiece is placed over the hole and then pierced by the tool (7) which forms tongues of metal extending from the edge of the hole. These tongues are forced into the hole in the first workpiece and then bent over the edge of this hole to form a rivetted joint between the two workpieces. USE/ADVANTAGE - Joint between sheet metal workpieces without need for additional fastening devices and as bolts of rivets.
