A process and assembly separates mixts. of particles and/or liq. droplets comprised of different substances, whose density is similar under normal conditions, but of differing compressibility. The novelty is that the mixt. is introduced together with a liquid or gaseous carrier medium into an appts. in which density of the particles and/or fluid droplets increases as a result of different compressibility. The reaction comprising the mixt. sediment to a differing degree and accumulate in different sections of the appts. from which they are removed through separate outlets. The carrier medium is pref. an aq. soln. which results in a suspension or an emulsion. Alternatively the carrier medium is a gas pref. air to produce an aerosol or dust suspension. The suspension, emulsion, aerosol or dust suspension may be generated outside the appts. into which they are then introduced and subjected to pressure and compression. IMAGE
