Roll seam welding of containers is claimed according to which the roll (2) incorporated in a welding arm (1) of a resistance roll seam-welding machine is periodically machined for maintenance purposes. As a consequence, the roll diameter is reduced. After each machining the roll is vertically adjusted relative to the longitudinal axis (14) of the welding arm (1) so that the diameter reduction is compensated. The roll holder unit is provided with means for vertical adjustment of the roll stator element (8). Roll holder unit for resistance seam-welding machine is also claimed.
