The method of avoidance of substitution of the external repeater unit fitted to the roof of taxis involves using an alphanumeric code stored in the repeater (12) and in the taximeter (10). Each time the taximeter is activated the code stored in the repeater is compared with the code held in the taximeter. If the codes do not correspond the taximeter is permanently blocked. The first signal is transmitted from the taximeter to the repeater by modulation of the supply voltage. The reply to the taximeter is transmitted by current modulation.
