The power supply to the taximeter is continuously monitored by a monitoring unit external to the taximeter. An alarm is generated by the monitoring unit when the value of a signal from the taximeter falls below a set threshold for a predetermined time interval. When the signal is received, the taximeter is locked in a permanent error state.
