The equipment has a heavy lifting arm (3) with first and second arms (18,19) attached to it. A beam (6) is attached to the free end of the second arm so that it can rotate about a horizontal axis (7). A first drive motor is provided to rotate the heavy lifting arm about a first horizontal rotational axis (4). A second drive motor (8) is used to drive the beam about the second horizontal rotational axis (7). A towing frame (9) is affixed to the end of the beam to pivot about a third horizontal axis (10). The second drive motor activates the beam through a rotating element (15,16) whose movement allows the beam to move through 180 deg with respect to the second arm (19). The combined action of the first and second drive motors allows the equipment to be moved into a position to be used as a lifting crane. In this position the second arm is positioned generally horizontally, the beam is orientated at 180 deg to it and the beam and towing frame are also arranged generally horizontally to the ground.
