The layer of polymer based ionic conducting material, notably protonic or basic, is associated with at least one film of peelable material.- DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for a method for obtaining said layer; and application of said layer in manufacture of electrochemical devices.TF - TECHNOLOGY FOCUS - POLYMERS - Preferred Layer: Layer has thickness notably = 100-500mum; transmission at least = 70%; and blurring level no greater than 2%.Conducting material is thermoplastic, elastomeric, thermosetting, or in form of gel, notably based on solution of at least a polymer, and an acid or a base of mineral or organo-mineral type; and it contains at least two polymers of different molecular masses, notably 200000-500000gmol.-1, as well as a number of additives such as plastifiers, surfactants and lubricants; said acid being selected from esters of phosphoric and sulphuric acids; and said base being selected from alkaline (earth) metal hydroxides. Face of layer not in contact with peelable film is itself in contact with either a second peelable film, or a substrate, or a functionalized or functional film. The layer is waterproofed by solidifying its ends by e.g. soldering or adhesive means. Preferred Substrate: Substrate is based on flexible transparent polymer such as polyethylene or polycarbonate and it is mounted on preferably an electrically conducting layer e.g. tungsten oxide. Preferred Film: Peelable film comprises at least one organic or organo-mineral polymeric layer, notably obtained from monomers containing fluorine and/or silicon; and several superposed layers of which at least one is made from material such as paper or metal foil.Film has low surface energy and is resistant to attack by acids or bases. Preferred Method: Layer is made by extrusion in an inert atmosphere at 30-120 degreesC
