The activation of transverse belts on sorting installations comprises using the movement of the carousel (1,5) along the fixed guide structure rail (6A, 6B) as a kinetic energy source enabling the driving of the belts. The energy supplied by the movement of the carousel is removed by a driving wheel (7) brought into contact with a guide structure rail and connected to the motor drum (2) by the transverse belt through a transmission (8,9,10,11). This transmission drives the upper surface of the belt in one direction and consequently unloads the transported packet onto one of the sides of the carousel.
