Physico-chemical treatment of surface water to make it potable

Surface waters are treated to make them potable by coagulation (A), flocculation (B) and settling (C). The density of sludge produced in the flocculation stage is increased by addition of recycled sludge (16) from the settler, which has a polyelectrolyte flocculating agent added, and acts as a ballast.
