Resistance of given plant tissue to an inhibitor of acetolactate synthase is identified byPP(a) combining in an aqueous medium a sample of the plant tissue, the inhibitor of acetolactate synthase, and an inhibitor of keto acid reductoisomerase; P P(b) allowing time for acetolactate to accumulate;P P (c) rupturing the cells;PP(d) acidifying the mixture to convert any accumulated acetolactate to acetoin; andP P(e) calorimetrically detecting the presence of acetoin in the mixture.
