2-[(2-Alkoxy-6-trifluoromethylpyrimidin-4-yl)oxymethylene]- phenylacetic acid derivatives of the formula I ##STR1## where the index and the substituents have the following meanings: U is CH or N;P PV is O or NH;PPR is alkyl;PPR. sup.1 is cyano, halogen, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy, haloalkoxy or phenyl; PPn is 0 or an integer from 1 to 4,PP processes and intermediates for their preparation, and their use are described.
