Process for the enzymatic preparation of isomerically pure compounds of the general formulae I and II IMAGE where the substituents R have the meanings stated in the claims, and the use thereof for the preparation of isomerically pure isosorbide 2-nitrate of the formula V and isosorbide 5-nitrate of the formula VI IMAGE both of which are important as therapeutic agents for coronary disorders.
