PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new double variant useful for producing hydrogen, comprising a variant of a specific Rhodobacter sphaeroides RV incapable of accumulating a polyhydroxyalkanoic acid ester and incapable of expressing hydrogenase uptake activity. ;SOLUTION: This variant of Rhodobacter sphaeroides RV is incapable of accumulating a polyhydroxyalkanoic acid ester and incapable of expressing hydrogenase uptake activity, deposited with the association number CBS 101324 has an improved ability of producing hydrogen and is useful for producing hydrogen.
