PURPOSE: To contrive to shorten the residence time of slurry in a settler by attaching an introducing opening for horizontally feeding mixed liquid at low velocity and a spacer for decreasing the passage volume of slurry to the settler. ;CONSTITUTION: An introducing opening 7 for feeding a mixture of two liquids 2 at low velocity and a spacer 8 for necessarily and sufficiently decreasing the volume of a passage 12 of slurry are installed in a horizontal settler 1 with a cone lower part. The introducing opening 7 has such opening area that the average velocity of the mixture of two liquids flowing to the settler 1 is about 0.1m/sec. The spacer 8 is equipped with an opening 9 and a vent pipe 10 for letting gas escape at the lower and upper parts respectively and the distance between the lower end of the introducing opening 7 and the upper part of the spacer 8 is made small.
