PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a long portion where the polarization is uniformly inverted in a periodically polarization inversion structure by using periodical electrodes having rather short electrode fingers, when forming the periodic polarization inversion structure in which a plurality of polarization inversion portions are periodically arranged on a ferroelectric material having a nonlinear optical effect. ;SOLUTION: Periodic electrodes 11 having a plurality of electrode fingers 11a periodically arranged are formed on one surface 12a of a ferroelectric material 12 such as a MgO-LN substrate in a monopolarization state, while a corona discharge wire 13 is arranged facing the other surface 12b so as to inverse the direction of spontaneous polarization of the portion corresponding to the periodical electrode 11 of the ferroelectric material 12. In this method, as for the periodical electrode 11, interdigital electrodes are used, and the interdigital electrode has electrode fingers 11a with each one end connected to a common electrode base 11b and the other end separated from each other without contact with each other.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
