PURPOSE: To enhance the productivity of coke by providing the inner wall made of stainless steel at the kiln top of a shaft kiln for carbonizing briquetted coal by direct heating with a gas, keeping the inner wall temperature within a specific range and preventing the produced tar from condensing at the kiln top of the shaft kiln. ;CONSTITUTION: This method for preventing tar from condensing at the kiln top of a shaft kiln is to provide the inner wall made of stainless steel at the kiln top of the shaft kiln for carbonizing briquetted coal 4 by directing heating with a gas, use stainless steel plates having the surfaces polished with an abrasive material, keep the inner wall of the kiln top of the shaft kiln warm at 230-350°C with an electric heater 1, install a heat insulating material 2 on the outer wall side of the stainless steel plates, further tilt the stainless steel plates at the kiln top by 4-5° so as to enhance the effects on the prevention of condensation of tar at the kiln top of the shaft kiln, tilt a pipe to a circulating gas line 3 at the outlet of the shaft kiln by 45° and eliminate horizontal parts.
