PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for transporting and/or preserving live bait, enabling loss in transportation or preservation to be reduced and enabling the freshness of live bait to be retained for a long term, and also to provide a method for producing artificially simulated mud and sand helpful for the transportation and/or preservation of live bait. ;SOLUTION: The method for transporting and/or preserving live bait is to wash live bait collected from its habitat with natural seawater to remove an accretion such as mud, to transport the bait to a relay station, to house the bait together with artificially simulated mud and sand 2 containing mud and sand on a habitat seashore and artificial seawater in a container, and then to cool them to transport them to and/or preserve them in the place of delivery. The method for producing artificially simulated mud and sand 2 is to immerse paper into artificial seawater to defibrate the paper and then to mix the defibrated plant cellulosic fibers with mud and sand on a habitat seashore to form granular artificially simulated mud and sand 2.
