PURPOSE: To prevent a thermal head from being adversely affected by heat- sensitive paper even when printing is directly made on the heat-sensitive paper by a method wherein the thermal head makes printing on the heat-sensitive paper through a head protector tape. ;CONSTITUTION: When a thermal transfer ink ribbon is used, a thermal transfer ink ribbon cassette is loaded on a carriage 4, the thermal transfer ink ribbon is abutted on recording paper on a platen 1 by a thermal head 5, and printing is made by a thermal transfer method. When a user intends to conduct a direct printing on heat-sensitive paper without using a thermal transfer ink ribbon, heat-sensitive paper 3 is set on the platen 1, a thermal transfer ink ribbon cassette is unloaded from the carriage 4, and a cassette 7 containing a head protector tape 10 is loaded therein.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
