PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plate wave ultrasonic flaw detection which enables prevention of an oversight of a defect or false detection thereof even when a material being an object of flaw detection meanders. ;SOLUTION: Taking in a time series signal given from an A/D converter 5, CPU 61 refers to each gain set in a look-up table 62 and generates a corrective flaw detection signal. The CPU 61 arranges two-dimensionally a corrected time series signal obtained, in a frame memory 63, on the basis of a pulse signal given from a pulse timing controller 1 and it converts this signal into a gray image signal and gives it to an image memory 64. A detection range setting part 65 calculates a binarization threshold value and conducts binarization of a two-dimensional flaw detection image. The detection range setting part 65 calculates a profile in the width direction of a material being an object of flaw detection from the binary image and sets a range of detection of a defect.
