PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of and a device for finding a pick in an automatic winder, which can reduce the degree of pay-out of a needle thread during knotting without complicating the structure of the winder. ;SOLUTION: The reverse rotational speed of a traverse drum is set to be smaller after a second knotting time than at a first knotting time. Specifically, the device comprises a counter means for counting a number of repetitions of knotting until the knotting between a bobbin thread picked off from a feed bobbin 1 and a needle thread picked by reversing the traverse drum 6 with which a wind-up package is made in rolling contact, is completed, and a rotational speed control means 26 for decreasing the rotational speed of a drive motor 12 to a value smaller than that at the first time, for the traverse drum when the number counted by the counter means 25 becomes equal to that obtained after the second time.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
