PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character plotting apparatus capable of adequately correcting the outline data of characters according to the types and characteristic values of documents and a character plotting method therefor. SOLUTION: This character plotting method consists in first inputting character strings and the document type and characteristic value relating thereto to the character plotting apparatus. The outline data of the characters with respect to the assigned type face is fetched from an outline data memory and the correction data corresponding to the assigned document type and characteristic is read out of a correction data memory. The outline data of the characters is corrected according to the acquired correction data and the outline data after the correction is subjected plotting processing. The plotting data of the characters is then outputted.
