PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new kind of microorganisms, Flavobacterium indologenes K-K-6, having the high ability to biodegrade, under aerobic conditions, organic wastewater including water resulted from rice washing, highly rich in carbohydrates and poor in proteins and lipids.;SOLUTION: This new kind of microorganisms, Flavobacterium indologenes K-K-6 (FERM P-16801), has the high ability to biodegrade, under aerobic conditions, organic wastewater including water resulted from rice washing, highly rich in carbohydrates and poor in proteins and lipids, therefore being useful in e.g. a biodegradative treatment method for organic wastewater including water resulted from rice washing. This new kind of bacteria is obtained by the following procedure: garbage sludge collected in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, is suspended and agitated in a physiological saline, the resulting supernatant is inoculated upon a selective medium prepared by sterilizing water resulted from polished rice washing, followed by shaking culture at 25C for 72 h, the resultant culture solution is applied onto an agar medium containing water resulted from rice washing followed by conducting a culture at 250C for 48 h, and the resultant colonies are subjected to bacterial pickup operation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
