PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a designing method of a blast furnace which can prolong the service life of the furnace by reducing the wearing at the furnace bottom parts as little as possible and has such furnace bottom part, and an operating method, with which the service life can be prolonged. ;SOLUTION: The designing method of the blast furnace is executed so as to satisfy the following formula I to the furnace hearth diameter. Then, the blast furnace is decided to the shape of the furnace bottom part so as to satisfy this formula. The operating method is executed so as to keep the iron tapping quantity Wpig in the range satisfying the following formula II in the blast furnace having DH furnace hearth diameter. Formula I: DH≥Wmaxpig/550.
