PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more remarkably improve the high-temp. creep strength or low- temp. toughness than those by a powder metallurgy method or a unidirectional solidification method by reinforcing the single crystals of MoSi2 base silicide having a C11b type structure composing a matrix by the compounding of ceramics long fibers. ;SOLUTION: The single crystals of MoSi2 base silicide having a C11b type structure are used as a matrix and are reinforced by ceramics fibers to obtain a composite material having high high-temp. creep strength or toughness in a low temp. region. At this time, the orientation in the vicinity of the [001] of the single crystals is oriented parallel to the axial direction of the ceramics long fibers to impart excellent creep resistance thereto, or the orientation in the vicinity of the [010] of the single crystals is oriented parallel to the axial direction of the ceramics long fibers to impart excellent oxidation resistance and heat cycle resistance thereto. As this MoSi2 base silicide, the one composed of MoSi2 is preferable, and in a extent in which the crystal structure is not changed, a part of Mo may be substituted by Ti, Zr or the like, and, a part of Si may be substituted by B, Al or the like.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
