POINTING METHOD UTILIZING TRACK BALL AND TRACK BALL TYPE POINTING DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a track ball type pointing device allowed to be attached also to a thin type portable terminal and capable of obtaining a sufficiently long moving distance and a sense of direct operation by track ball rotating operation executed by a user. ;SOLUTION: The pointing device is installed in a thin notebook type personal computer(PC) B to be a thin type portable terminal and provided with a group of track balls 4b having the same compact size arrayed like a two-dimensional matrix and allowed to be rotated by a user, a group of ball receivers 5b for receiving respective track balls 4b, a group of light emitting diodes(LEDs) 6b to be measuring means and capable of emitting light for dispersedly and individually measuring the moving directions and moving distances of respective track balls 4b, a group of light receiving parts 7b for correspondingly receiving light emitted from the LEDs 6b and reflected by the track balls 4b, and a displacement state calculation module for calculating positioning information for final moving direction and moving distance from batch integrated measured information obtained by temporarily integrating a group of dispersedly and individually measured information and outputting the calculated result to the PC B.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
