PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system capable of being shifted to the Anno Domini(A.D.) 4-digit system while guaranteeing data exceeding 100 years without varying the record length of a database of an A.D. low-order 2-digit system. ;SOLUTION: While usual operation is carried on, a conventional data-base has A.D. low-order two digits to A.D. four digits and a transient data base compressed into a conventional 6-byte area is ported to other parts of a magnetic disk or to an externally connected magnetic disk, and an operation confirmation test after the A.D. 4-digit shifting is conducted on the basis of the transient database to carry out the actual shifting and its operation confirming operation in usual operation hours without any hindrance to the daily operation.
