PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exactly pinpoint a data error on a magnetic memory disk and to correct the same by applying a protocol for correcting intra-error data by reading out the data equivalent to one sector and detecting the data error start position and end position thereof. ;SOLUTION: The data is read out ≥2 times and the respective continuous read-outs are compared with the previous read-outs and the approximate data error position is pinpointed. Whether the position for the intra-error data is detected or not is then judged. When the data are judged to have the error position where the intra-error data are detected, the protocol reregulates the data error start position as if this position is a predetermined number of the continuous byte positions at the left of the previously detected data error start position, thereby attempting the correction. A data correction algorithm is applied to the respective continuous and iterative trials for correcting the data regulated between the data error start position and the end position.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
