PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for making an existing multiple dwelling house without elevator suitable for dwelling for the aged by installing an elevator in the house afterward. ;SOLUTION: On the balcony 10 side of an existing multiple dwelling house in which, for instance, four dwelling houses A to D are laterally arranged, a U-shaped passage 3 is connected in a corridor shape, and an elevator shaft 1 whose doors are openable on this passage 3 side is connectedly arranged. By stopping the internal elevator 2 at the passages 3 of respective floors, the ground floor and the respective floor layers are communicated by moving the elevator 2, and the respective dwelling houses A to D have access to each other through the passages 3 of the respective floor layers via the balcony 10. Further, each of the living rooms 16 facing to the balcony 10 of the respective dwelling houses A to D is provided with a new entrance 17. The existing stairs 12, 14 are used as emergency stairs.
