PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a negative type radiation sensitive mixture for the production of a recording material capable of forming an image under heat or infrared laser beams. SOLUTION: The negative type radiation sensitive mixture contains an organic polymeric binder and a material that converts radiation energy into heat. The polymeric binder contains units of the formulae as essential components and has an acid value of 5-150. The recording material contains a substrate and a layer of the mixture. In the formulae, R1 is H or alkyl, X is a single bond or an alkane, alkene or cyclic (q+1)-valent group, (n) is 40-80 mol% (m) is 15-30 mol% (p) is 1-10 mol%, (q) is an integer of 1-3, and when X is a single bond, (q) is 1.
