PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve adhesion property between adjacent catalyst layers of a ceramic monolithic catalyst having a multilayered catalyst layer structure, and to prevent peeling between the catalyst layers even for repeated use. ;SOLUTION: When two or more layers of catalyst layers 2 and 6 are formed on a ceramic monolithic catalyst carrier 1, a soln. containing a compd. 3 which can produce aggregates of the catalyst slurry for the second and succeeding catalyst layers 6 is deposited on the ceramic monolithic carrier body 1 before the catalyst slurry for the second and succeeding catalyst layers 6 is applied. Then the catalyst slurry for the second and succeeding catalyst layers 6 is applied to obtain a ceramic monolithic catalyst having two or more catalyst layers by applying the catalyst slurry on the ceramic monolithic catalyst carrier 1. In this catalyst, an aggregate film (or layer) 5 of the catalyst slurry is formed on the part where two or more catalyst layers 2 and 6 are in contact with each other.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
