PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a wire rod excellent in wire drawability and to inexpensively provide an extra fine steel wire produced by using the wire rod as a material and suitably used for steel cord and sawing wire under high productivity in good yield. ;SOLUTION: This high carbon steel wire rod has a composition which consists of, by weight, 0.70-0.95% C, 0.1-0.5% Si, 0.1-0.6% Mn, ≤0.01% P, ≤0.01% S, ≤0.004% N, at least one kind among 0.01-0.08% Cu, 0.01-0.08% Ni, 0.01-0.10% Cr, and 0.01-0.05% Mo, and the balance Fe with impurities and in which the value of (Cu/3)+(Ni/6)+(Cr/3)+(Mo/2) is regulated to 0.02 to 0.05%, where the symbol of element in the expression stands for the content of the element by weight percentage.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
