PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To relax nonuniformity of the resolution in the circumferential direction of a displayed stereoscopic picture. SOLUTION: A crosssectional picture of an entire area that is displayed at turning positions 1, 2, 3,... of a screen is acquired and only an outer circumferential part of the crosssectional picture with respect to a turning axis Z is acquired at turning positions 12, 23,... that are intermediate positions with respect to the turning positions 1, 2, 3,.... In the case of projecting the crosssectional picture onto the screen. the outer circumferential part of the crosssectional picture is updated at a frequency twice that of an inner circumferential part while turning the screen. Thus, nonuniformity in the circumferential resolution of the outer circumferential part and the circumferential resolution of the inner circumferential part can be relaxed.
