PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the number of control pins for input to a channel control part by equipping a specific unit, mounted on the system, internally with a system constitution recognizing circuit which outputs system constitution information onto a data line and a register which holds the system constitution information outputted onto the data line. ;SOLUTION: Individual units having host adapters 100 to 102, drive adapters 200 to 202, and cluster memories 300 to 302 connected by an address/data signal bus 10 send and receive address/data signals through the address/data signal bus 10. A system constitution recognizing circuit is provided in the host adapter 100 and outputs system constitution information showing what unit is mounted onto a data line. Similarly, system constitution recognizing circuits are provided in the host adapters 101 and 102 and drive adapters 200 to 202 and output system constitution information onto data lines.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
