PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an austenitic steel excellent in high cycle fatigue characteristics which exhibits excellent high cycle fatigue life characteristics and jointly has excellent machinability. ;SOLUTION: This steel is the one having a compsn. contg., by weight, 0.06 to 0.6% C, 0.2 to 1.0% Si, 1.5 to 24.0% Mn, 0.05 to 0.40% S, 3.0 to 15.0% Ni and 5.0 to 19.0% Cr, satisfying Mn/S ≥4, and in which the aspect ratio (length/ thickness) of MnS formed in the steel is controlled to ≥4. Moreover, the steel is added with one or two kinds selected from among 0.5 to 3.0% Mo, 1.0 to 2.0% V, 0.10 to 0.40% Nb and 0.05 to 0.20% N.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
