PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and economically hydrogenate a molecule having multiple bond by using a hydrogenation catalyst composed of a fullerene molecule, its polymer and a carrier supporting the molecule, etc., in the presence of a hydrogen atom donor under the action of light energy. ;SOLUTION: A molecule having multiple bond (e.g. carbon dioxide) is hydrogenated to produce methane, etc., by using a hydrogenation catalyst composed of at least one kind of fullerene compound selected from a fullerene molecule expressed by Cn (n is an integer capable of geometrically forming a spherical compound) and/or its polymer and their compounds (e.g. a fullerene derivative such as fullerene epoxide and hydrogenated fullerene, a metal-containing fullerene or a fullerene modified with fluorine, nitrogen, etc.), and a carrier supporting the compound in the presence of a hydrogen atom donor (e.g. water molecule) under the action of light energy such as sunlight.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
