PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a highly functional activated carbon fiber by introducing an oxygen functional group to the surface of the activated carbon fiber by a positive electrode oxidation. ;SOLUTION: An activated carbon fiber 1 is placed between a graphite positive electrode and a graphite negative electrode board 4 in an acidic or alkaline electrolytic solution 5. An electric current is applied by applying a voltage between the graphite positive electrode and the graphite negative electrode board so as to have an electric current density, to increase the adsorptivity with the surface oxide and simultaneously to improve an adsorption performance time extremely when treating gaseous and liquid impurities.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
