PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize fine coal ash particles having a relatively large average particle diameter. SOLUTION: Fine coal ash particles having 10-40 m average particle diameter, 12-40 wt.% inorganic thickener and 27-37 wt.% water to the total weight of the fine coal ash particles and the inorganic thickener are mixed and kneaded and molded or granulated while carrying out degassing under 0.1-100 kPa pressure. The kneaded material is dried and fired at 1,000-1,300 deg.C for 0.5-5 hr to produce the objective ceramic molding. The fine coal ash particles in the ceramic molding are bonded to one another and a large number of fine voids are formed among the bonded particles and provide a porous structure in which the surface of the molding connects to the interior. The pore volume of the molding is 0.01-0.5 cc/g.
