PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a succulent growth suppressing agent effective for growing a plant having thick and hard above-ground part and short plant length and forming a dense root ball containing a number of thick and hard roots spreading over the whole culture soil by using a specific emulsifier as an active component.;SOLUTION: The objective succulent growth suppressing agent for cell- cultured seedling is produced by using an emulsifier selected from a polyhydric alcohol fatty acid ester (preferably sucrose fatty acid ester, polyglycerol fatty acid ester or sorbitol fatty acid ester) and lecithin as an active component. The emulsifier used as an active component preferably has an HLB of ≥3. The cell-cultured seedling is produced preferably by sowing in a cell and raising the seedling in the presence of the succulent growth suppressing agent from the viewpoint of simple operation and remarkable effect. A formulation amount of the succulent growth suppressing agent is preferably 0.01-20 wt.%. A small- sized tough cell-cultured seedling is provided by this process and the produced seedling is expected to be resistant to the damage in transplantation and have good compatibility to mechanical transplantation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
