PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an additive which gives an ink which is excellent in delivery properties and fixability and gives distinct record images by selecting, as the additive, a polymeric saccharide compd. having the main chain formed from a saccharide compd. and an aliph. compd.;SOLUTION: This additive is a polymeric saccharide compd. which has the main chain fromed from a saccharide compd., pref. an oligosaccharide, (e.g. cellobiose or chitobiose) and an aliph. compd. pref. having reactive groups at both the molecular ends and 1-6 carbon atoms between the terminal reactive groups (e.g. butanediol or adipic acid). This polymeric saccharide compd. is, for example, a copolymer wherein a saccharide compd. and an aliph. compd. are arranged alternately in the main chain and are bonded to each other by ether bonds, ester bonds, peptide bonds, urethane bonds, or the like by polycondensation and pref. has a wt. average mol.wt. of about 5,000-100,000. An aq. ink jet ink is prepd. by compounding this additive, water, a water-soluble org. solvent, and a dye or pigment dispersion.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
