PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the treatment speed of raw water by increasing the decomposition speed of organic substances and to reduce the site area of a treatment facility by increasing the quantity of water treatment per unit time by adding an alkyl phenol such as nonyl phenol and cresol into a water treatment system using ozone. ;SOLUTION: Miscellaneous water taken up from an intake port 2 decomposes contaminants in a bio-treatment chamber 10 and accelerates the decomposition of organic substances by aerobic microorganisms adherent to a filter 3 by diffusing air. Water which passed through the chamber 10 is introduced into an agitation chamber 20 and, after the flocculation/precipitation of precipitated components, is introduced into a rapid filtration chamber 30 for sand filtration. The water is introduced into an ozone treatment chamber 40 to decompose harmful substances by diffusing ozone and then into a granular active carbon treatment chamber 50 and, after the removal of minute impurities, is subjected to chlorine sterilization in a mixing basin 60. Nonylphenol or cresol, which is catalyst for accelerating the decomposition reaction of organic substances by ozone, is added to raw water.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
