PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decompose and remove a hardly decomposable substance being a harmful component in water by diffusing ozone into treated water. ;SOLUTION: In a treated water purifying process, ozone is reacted in the presence of a catalyst comprising nonylphenol. Either one of lower alcohol and acetone or both of them are added to this catalyst. Ozone is diffused into treated water in the presence of chlorine. As nonylphenol, p-nonylphenol is used. As nonylphenol, one wherein two molecules with a mol.wt. of 220 and a mol.wt. of 107 are detected by gas chromatography and the measurement of a mass spectrum is used.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
