PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new DNA encoding the protein of quail's H1 histone having a specific amino acid sequence, and thereby affording the H1 histone having antibacterial activity and therefore useful as e.g. an antibacterial feed additive, antibacterial agent against antibiotic-resistant bacteria. ;SOLUTION: This new DNA is such one as to encode proteins such as quail's H1 histone having an amino acid sequence of the formula or a protein having an amino acid sequence wherein one or two amino acids are deleted, substituted, inserted or added in the above amino acid sequence of the formula and also having the function of H1 histone. This new DNA is useful as e.g. an additive in feed for preventing e.g. the bacteriogenic diarrhea in poultry, an antibacterial substance alternative to antibiotics because of its established efficacy against antibiotic-resistant bacteria. This new DNA is obtained by performing a PCR using a primer prepared from quail's chromosomal DNA library, based on the base sequences preserved among H1 histone genes.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
