The object of the present invention is a new ferric complex of succinylated casein (indicated in the text as "iron-succinylcasein") obtained from food casein. In addition, a process for the preparation of ferro-succinylcasein, in high yields and without formation of insoluble residues, from food casein is described. The present invention also relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising a therapeutically effective amount of ferro-succinylcasein in association with excipients, diluents and preservatives suitable for pharmaceutical use. The ferric complex according to the present invention is advantageously used in the therapeutic treatment of pathological conditions related to iron deficiency; this complex is actually characterized by the absence of side effects and high tolerability.
