"OPHTHALMIC COMPOSITION INCLUDING GLYCERIN AND PROPYLENE GLYCOL AND OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION USEFUL AS AN ARTIFICIAL Tear". Ophthalmic compositions having high water-binding properties that are useful are described as: moisturizing and lubricating solutions (i.e. artificial tear), dry eye therapies, wetting solutions and contact lens lubricants, and as delivery vehicles for ophthalmic drugs . The compositions in question include glycerin in combination with glycolic propylene. The compositions in question may additionally include cellulose derivatives, e.g. e., hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, together with preservatives, e.g. and. benzylalkonium chloride, PHMB, sorbic acid, etc. Preferred compositions have at least 11% water bound, a pH of about 7.1 to 7.5 and an osmolity of about 280 to 320 mOsm / kg.
